im looking at using scottrade.com, but i really know next to nothing about buying stocks. im not looking for long term investments, just buy low and sell high. what kind of fees or payments there be and how do taxes on this kind of stuff work? my friend once told me the longer you hold a stock, the less the tax on it when you sell. also, how do taxes affect buying a stock? im pretty clueless and any details will help. thanks!

looby asked: I know people are predicting a recession and people are worried. Surly this will all blow over. I was wondering if someone were to have a few spare thousands of pounds, would now be a wise time to invest if they can wait a few years ,if that’s what it takes to make a profit? or is it a possibility they could lose the lot?
